POSITION: Media Analyst, FSN-8 (Contract Employee Agreement) Based in New Delhi
OPENING DATE: November 10, 2015

WORK HOURS: Full-time; 40 hours/week
SALARY: This position has the growth potential to higher grades based on performance and promotion criteria.

The US Embassy in New Delhi is seeking full-time Media Analyst who has experience in science journalism/reporting with a reputed Indian media organization. The candidate should be fluent in English with good working knowledge of Hindi and/or any other Indian language.

BASIC FUNCTIONS OF POSITION

Duties will include, but are not limited to, coverage of media developments and breaking news, production of translations and multimedia products, web content management, research, and written analysis from South Asia.
Incumbents will be required to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays and to travel periodically.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
 Experience of reporting/writing on Indian science-related developments.
 Level –IV native or near-native fluency in oral and written English and in any one or more vernacular languages. Knowledge of a language apart from Hindi will be an advantage.

 Knowledge of South Asian current affairs and media with minimum 2-3 years of work experience.
 Ability to synthesize and integrate complex information or data across sources to identify relationships and
trends.

 Ability to quickly and accurately translate into idiomatic English from the vernacular languages.
 Knowledge of social media.
 A university degree in science.
 Self-motivated individual with the ability to work in a team environment.
 Ability and willingness to perform a wide variety of tasks, change focus quickly, and adapt work habits/schedule to meet mission requirements

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:
 Experience of covering scientific conferences/meetings.
 Significant knowledge of media environments
 Exposure to social media tools.
SELECTION PROCESS
Only short-listed candidates will be notified. Notified candidates will be tested to evaluate translation skills, Englishlanguage
writing, and knowledge of current affairs.
Only candidates passing all tests will be called for a final interview. Candidates with knowledge of an additional
language will be given preference.
When fully qualified, U.S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and U.S. Veterans are given preference.
Therefore, it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.

• Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining
successful candidacy.
• Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
• Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or
Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.
• Currently employed U.S. Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply
for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
• Currently employed NORs and hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for
advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position
with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
