Job Description-Primary Responsibilities – Commissioning pieces for the magazine and working with writers to shape them for publication – Editing and copy-editing stories – Supervising staff writers – Soliciting pitches and recruiting new writers for the magazine – Maintaining a bank of stories and ideas – Staying up to speed on news and current events, especially in the areas of politics and culture – Importantly, as a member of the editorial team, to be a keen observer and fast learner of Indian politics, culture and society

Requirements-Candidates should have between five and ten years of editing experience, preferably in book publishing or feature journalism. They should also have demonstrated an editorial instinct for news and an interest working with writers from diverse backgrounds. The applicant should demonstrate top-notch editing skills, sound judgement and an enthusiasm for The Caravan’s mission to improve the quality of writing and reporting in India. The New Delhi office is a small shop, with the environment of a start-up, and therefore requires team players with a willingness to be flexible.

Primary Responsibilities – Working with associate editors to recruit new writers and solicit pitches across sections of the magazine – Commissioning pieces for the magazine and working with other editors and writers to put them through the The Caravan’s rigorous editorial process – Maintaining a bank of stories and ideas – Commissioning and editing some stories for Vantage, The Caravan’s blog – Staying up to speed on news and current events, especially in the areas of politics and culture – Importantly, as a member of the editorial team, to be a keen observer and fast learner of Indian politics, culture and society

They should also have an editorial instinct for news and an interest in working with writers from diverse backgrounds. Primary Responsibilities- – Copy-editing the pieces that are published in the magazine – Working with writers and editors to ensure clarity, consistency, structural coherence, accuracy and readability across all the sections of the magazines – Working with other editors to continuously develop and update a style sheet for the magazine – Commissioning and lead-editing pieces for the short-form sections in the front of the book – Commissioning and editing some stories for Vantage, The Caravan’s blog – Coordinating the production flow, including photo-captioning and proofreading

Requirements-Candidates should have at least three years of copy-editing experience, preferably in book publishing or narrative or feature journalism. They should also have demonstrated an editorial instinct for news and an interest in working with writers from diverse backgrounds. The applicant should demonstrate top-notch editing skills, sound judgment and an enthusiasm for The Caravan’s mission to improve the quality of writing and reporting in India. This is a full-time position. Night, holiday, and weekend work may be required.
